Silver Nightmares – Roxy Passion (EP, 2025)
C'è una certa eleganza nel modo in cui i Silver Nightmares portano avanti la loro idea di musica. Un’idea che si muove sicura nel filone del metal progressive, ma lo fa con uno spirito melodico, narrativo, accessibile, che non rinuncia mai alla profondità.
Con Roxy Passion, il nuovo EP pubblicato a cinque anni dal debutto, la band palermitana torna a raccontarsi con maturità e ispirazione.
Il quartetto di base è ormai ben rodato: Gabriele Taormina alle tastiere, Gabriele Esposito al basso, Alessio Maddaloni alla batteria e percussioni, e Diego La Mantia alle chitarre. Un ensemble capace di costruire intrecci sonori solidi, curati, dove ogni strumento trova il suo spazio e contribuisce all’insieme con misura ed efficacia.
Quattro brani: due inediti e due rivisitazioni. Il brano, Roxy Passion, suona già come un manifesto, e il brano che lo porta in apertura ne è conferma. Il contributo vocale del cantante svedese Göran Edman (ex Yngwie Malmsteen) regala una marcia in più, incastonandosi alla perfezione in un sound solido, compatto, ma allo stesso tempo ricco di sfumature. Tastiere e chitarre si alternano in un dialogo serrato che richiama i fasti del prog metal più ispirato, ma senza mai risultare eccessivo.
Cats on the Run è invece un elegante interludio strumentale. Le tastiere guidano il racconto sonoro, con fraseggi limpidi e una scrittura che punta più alla sostanza che all’esibizione. Una pausa riflessiva che mostra l’altro volto della band, più introspettivo e cinematico.
Il singolo The Blue Light of a Star torna in due nuove vesti: una versione vocale carica di pathos, con echi dei migliori Savatage e un’intensità emozionale che colpisce, e una "space version" strumentale, più rarefatta e sognante, capace di aprire scorci quasi psichedelici. Due anime dello stesso pezzo, che riescono a convivere e arricchirsi a vicenda.
Completano il quadro la bella grafica firmata da Ester Cardella e un lavoro di produzione preciso e dettagliato a cura di Simone Campione presso i Mind Studios di Palermo.
Roxy Passion è un EP che si inserisce con consapevolezza nel solco del metal progressive moderno, ma riesce a distinguersi per coerenza, passione e misura.
Non poteva mancare tra le proposte di redapolismusic, dove la musica di qualità trova casa. Un antipasto gustoso in attesa di un prossimo lavoro più ampio, che già si preannuncia interessante.

There is a certain elegance in the way Silver Nightmares carry out their musical vision. A vision that confidently moves within the progressive metal genre, but does so with a melodic, narrative, accessible spirit, never shying away from depth.
With Roxy Passion, the new EP released five years after their debut, the Palermo-based band returns with maturity and inspiration.
The core quartet is now well-established: Gabriele Taormina on keyboards, Gabriele Esposito on bass, Alessio Maddaloni on drums and percussion, and Diego La Mantia on guitars. This ensemble is capable of building solid, refined sonic textures where each instrument finds its space, contributing to the whole with balance and effectiveness.
Four tracks: two new ones and two revisited versions. The track Roxy Passion already sounds like a manifesto, and the opening track confirms this. The vocal contribution of Swedish singer Göran Edman (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen) gives an extra boost, fitting perfectly into a solid, compact sound that is rich in nuances. Keyboards and guitars alternate in a tight dialogue, reminiscent of the glory days of inspired prog metal, but without ever becoming excessive.
Cats on the Run is instead an elegant instrumental interlude. The keyboards lead the sonic narrative, with clear phrases and a writing style that focuses more on substance than display. A reflective pause that shows another side of the band, more introspective and cinematic.
The single The Blue Light of a Star returns in two new forms: a vocal version filled with pathos, echoing the best of Savatage, with an emotional intensity that strikes, and a "space version" instrumental, more ethereal and dreamy, capable of opening up almost psychedelic glimpses. Two souls of the same song, which manage to coexist and enrich each other.
Completing the picture is the beautiful artwork by Ester Cardella and precise, detailed production work by Simone Campione at the Mind Studios in Palermo.
Roxy Passion is an EP that knowingly fits into the modern progressive metal path, but manages to stand out for its coherence, passion, and balance.
It couldn’t be missing from the offerings of redapolismusic, where quality music finds its home. A tasty appetizer while waiting for a more extensive upcoming work, which already promises to be interesting.
