Spectrvm – Teschio Del Mondo (Terzo Millenio Records, 2023)
A Novembre dell’anno scorso è uscito un disco, a mio giudizio, molto interessante e che farà la felicità a tutti colo che hanno amato il rock progressivo italiano degli anni ’70 perché è proprio da li che giunge.
La band ora si chiama Spectrvm ed il lavoro “Teschio Del Mondo”, rimasto chiuso in un cassetto per più di quaranta anni, ora è stato finalmente registrato e pubblicato dall’etichetta Terzo Millenio Records.
Ma riavvolgiamo il nastro e facciamo un salto indietro nel tempo; la band si forma nel lontano 1974 col nome “Stratus” e diventa presto presenza fissa in vari dancing del nord Italia presentando un repertorio che pesca dai successi dei gruppi dell’epoca, ad iniziare dai Beatles.
La formazione comprendeva i membri fondatori Frank Lazzari (organo, tastiere e voce), i fratelli Jordan Bozzolan (batteria, percussioni e voce) e Daniele Bozzolan (basso, chitarre, pianoforte e voce), insieme a Renato Olivo (chitarre voce) ed in seguito Alberto Zanella (tastiere, pianoforte e voce).
Nel 1979, a causa di contrasti con la produzione, il progetto dell'album "Teschio del Mondo" fu abbandonato anche se la band continuò a esibirsi fino al 1982, anno in cui si sciolse.
Nel 2020, dopo quarant'anni di pausa, gli Stratus ripresero il progetto "Teschio del Mondo" con il nuovo chitarrista Marco Brega. Rinominati "SPECTRVM", mantennero la tradizione latina usando la V al posto della U.
La band ora è stabilizzata con Daniele Bozzolan al basso e voce, Jordan Bozzolan alla batteia e voce, Marco Brega alle chitarre e voce e Frank Lazzari alle tastiere e voce.
Il disco, i cui brani ruotano attorno ad un unico tema, narra una storia dedicata al nostro pianeta e tocca temi come la spiritualità, l’ecologia e l’ambiente, è molto convincente anche a livello strumentale dove il rock di stampo sinfonico sposa il prog con cambi di tempo ed umori.
Un altro fiore all’occhiello del lavoro e senz’altro la cura negli arrangiamenti e il gran lavoro nelle armonizzazioni delle voci (i testi sono tutti cantati in italiano).
La copertina dell'album raffigura la Terra vista dalla Luna, avvolta in un flusso psichedelico infinito che si ripete come un loop eterno. Al centro del globo terrestre si nasconde un teschio, un'immagine che, pur potendo apparire lugubre, trasmette in realtà un messaggio positivo.
L'album riflette questa dualità, utilizzando immagini fluttuanti in un flusso avvolgente che rappresentano il concetto artistico e musicale dell'intero lavoro.
Le otto tracce che compongono la scaletta del disco riportano la lancetta del tempo ai mitici anni ’70 con sonorità che possono ricordare gruppi quali le Orme ma anche i migliori Pooh.
I brani che ho più apprezzato sono “Bestia”, brano con introduzione d’organo dove si alternano momenti più duri a momenti più melodici - gli oltre otto minuti di “Nessuno Piange Nessuno Canta” che ben rappresenta il suono della band dove la melodia, molto presente, vede un ottimo uso dell’organo hammond e della chitarra con le voci ottimamente armonizzate.
Citerei, inoltre, la title track “Teschio Del Mondo” che vede la voce molto decisa ed un lavoro superbo della chitarra.
Toni più quieti con “Prigione” ma non banali perché si racconta della chiusura dei manicomi di stato della legge Basaglia e della storia di un uomo suo malgrado implicato in un internamento forzato fino alla sua liberazione.
Un disco, che affronta tematiche ancora attuali anche se pensato più di quaranta anni fa, suonato molto bene da una band affiatata e con doti compositive e strumentali di ottimo livello.
Se siete alla ricerca di emozioni sopite dal tempo questo disco saprà risvegliarle e, ne sono sicuro vi darà, come ha fatto a me, vibrazioni positive.
Sperando in un nuovo viaggio musicale della band comasca mi tutto un’altra volta tra le note di questo più che ottimo “Teschio Del Mondo” – fatelo anche voi !

Last November, an album was released that I find very interesting and will delight all those who loved Italian progressive rock of the '70s, as it hails from that era.
The band is now called Spectrvm, and the work "Teschio Del Mondo," which had been locked away for more than forty years, has finally been recorded and released by Terzo Millenio Records.
But let's rewind and take a step back in time. The band formed back in 1974 under the name "Stratus" and soon became a fixture in various dance clubs in northern Italy, presenting a repertoire that drew from the hits of groups of the era, starting with the Beatles.
The lineup included founding members Frank Lazzari (organ, keyboards, and vocals), brothers Jordan Bozzolan (drums, percussion, and vocals) and Daniele Bozzolan (bass, guitars, piano, and vocals), along with Renato Olivo (guitars and vocals) and later Alberto Zanella (keyboards, piano, and vocals).
In 1979, due to disagreements with the production, the "Teschio del Mondo" album project was abandoned, though the band continued to perform until 1982, the year they disbanded.
In 2020, after a forty-year hiatus, Stratus resumed the "Teschio del Mondo" project with new guitarist Marco Brega. Renamed "SPECTRVM," they maintained the Latin tradition by using V instead of U.
The current lineup consists of Daniele Bozzolan on bass and vocals, Jordan Bozzolan on drums and vocals, Marco Brega on guitars and vocals, and Frank Lazzari on keyboards and vocals.
The album, whose tracks revolve around a single theme, tells a story dedicated to our planet and touches on themes such as spirituality, ecology, and the environment. It is very convincing instrumentally, where symphonic rock merges with prog through changes in tempo and mood.
Another highlight of the work is the meticulous attention to arrangements and the extensive work on vocal harmonizations (all the lyrics are sung in Italian).
The album cover depicts the Earth seen from the Moon, surrounded by an infinite psychedelic flow that repeats like an eternal loop. At the center of the globe lies a skull, an image that, while potentially macabre, actually conveys a positive message.
The album reflects this duality, using floating images in an enveloping flow that represents the artistic and musical concept of the entire work.
The eight tracks on the album transport the listener back to the '70s with sounds reminiscent of bands like Le Orme and the best of Pooh.
The tracks I appreciated most are “Bestia,” a piece with an organ introduction that alternates between harder and more melodic moments; the over eight-minute “Nessuno Piange Nessuno Canta,” which well represents the band's sound with its strong melody and excellent use of the Hammond organ and guitar with well-harmonized vocals.
I would also mention the title track “Teschio Del Mondo,” which features decisive vocals and superb guitar work.
“Prigione” offers quieter tones, but is not trivial as it tells the story of the closure of state mental hospitals under the Basaglia law and the tale of a man forced into internment until his release.
This album, which addresses still-relevant themes despite being conceived over forty years ago, is well played by a cohesive band with excellent compositional and instrumental skills.
If you are looking for emotions dormant over time, this album will awaken them and, as it did for me, give you positive vibes.
Hoping for a new musical journey from the Como-based band, I'll immerse myself once again in the notes of this more than excellent "Teschio Del Mondo" – you should too!
