Dopo l'ottimo “Entropy Override” (Lizard Records) del 2022, è disponibile il nuovo lavoro dei Zolder Ellipsis, band olandese-americana: "Book Of Tropes (Il Libro Dei Tropi)", sempre per Lizard Records.

Nel loro avventuroso secondo album in studio, i Zolder Ellipsis, guidati dall'eclettico tastierista e pianista Tom Aldrich, continuano a esplorare territori musicali inesplorati. Con "Il Libro dei Tropi", la band si cimenta in un audace caleidoscopio di stili e generi, spaziando dal rock al jazz sperimentale e progressivo, integrando al contempo influenze più marginali e popolari.
Questo album si presenta come un compendio di strumenti e sonorità diverse, unendo sapientemente elementi contrastanti all'interno di ogni brano. I compositori medievali usavano il "troping" per aggiungere voci personali alla musica sacra tradizionale; allo stesso modo, Zolder Ellipsis applica questa tecnica per creare brani che sono al contempo familiari e innovativi. Come definito dall'American Heritage Dictionary, il troping implica "l'uso di una parola o espressione modificata dal significato originale a un altro", suggerendo che la band rielabora le tecniche stilistiche in un contesto nuovo, conferendo loro una rinnovata vitalità.
Oltre all’aspetto simbolico e immaginifico del tropo, l’album offre esperimenti di genere che trasportano l’ascoltatore in un paesaggio sonoro contemporaneo e onirico. Rispetto al loro lavoro precedente, l'approccio compositivo di questo disco è più focalizzato e articolato, con intricate trame ritmiche e complessi contrappunti strumentali che dimostrano una crescita artistica significativa. Tuttavia, non manca quella scintilla di interazione spontanea e caos improvvisativo che aveva caratterizzato "Entropy Override".
Una novità significativa di "Il Libro dei Tropi" è la collaborazione con la talentuosa scrittrice Eunsong Kim, i cui testi sono interpretati con passione dalla cantante e artista Esther Mugambi. Questa collaborazione arricchisce ulteriormente l'album, aggiungendo profondità e prospettiva alle già intricate composizioni della band.
Quindi il consiglio che vi do è di far vostro questo interessantissimo disco che farà vibrare le orecchie a chi ama il RIO, il progressive ed il jazz sperimentale.

After the excellent "Entropy Override" (Lizard Records) in 2022, the new work from Zolder Ellipsis, the Dutch-American band, is now available: "Book Of Tropes (Il Libro Dei Tropi)", also from Lizard Records.

In their adventurous second studio album, Zolder Ellipsis, led by the eclectic keyboardist and pianist Tom Aldrich, continue to explore uncharted musical territories. With "Il Libro dei Tropi," the band delves into a bold kaleidoscope of styles and genres, ranging from rock to experimental and progressive jazz, while simultaneously incorporating more marginal and popular influences.
This album serves as a compendium of diverse instruments and sounds, skillfully blending contrasting elements within each track. Medieval composers used "troping" to add personal voices to traditional sacred music; similarly, Zolder Ellipsis employs this technique to create tracks that are both familiar and innovative. As defined by the American Heritage Dictionary, troping involves "the use of a word or expression changed from its original meaning to another," suggesting that the band reworks stylistic techniques in a new context, giving them renewed vitality.
Beyond the symbolic and imaginative aspect of the trope, the album offers genre experiments that transport the listener into a contemporary and dreamlike soundscape. Compared to their previous work, the compositional approach of this album is more focused and articulated, with intricate rhythmic textures and complex instrumental counterpoints demonstrating significant artistic growth. However, the spontaneous interaction and improvisational chaos that characterized "Entropy Override" are still present.
