Eccoci arrivati ad un nuovo appuntamento con le compilation di Hit Single Record.
Questa volta abbiamo voluto prendere in esame il R & B ed il Soul a cavallo tra gli anni '50 ed i primissimi anni '60.
Il brano, che vorremmo portare alla vostra attenzione è "Chain Gang", brano scritto ed interpretato da Sam Cooke.
Si tratta del secondo più grande successo di Cooke ed il suo primo grande successo per la RCA dopo aver lasciato la Keen Records nel 1959.
Il brano è ispirato ad un fatto realmente accaduto sotto gli occhi del nostro, mentre era in tournée ovvero dell'incontro causale con una banda di prigionieri mentre, incatenati, svolgevano lavori forzati.
Si narra anche che Sam Cooke non era soddisfatto delle sessioni iniziali di registrazione di questo brano presso gli studi RCA di Manhattan nel Gennaio 1960 così da ritornarci tre mesi dopo per rifare le parti vocali.
Questo è solo uno dei brani presenti in questa compilation e potrete ascoltare, fra gli altri, "I Got a Woman" di Ray Charles, "Maybellene" di Chuck Berry, "Love Or A Game" di James Brown e molte altre.
Come sempre i brani sono stati rimasterizzati per migliorare la qualità d'ascolto.

This time, we wanted to examine R&B and Soul spanning the late '50s to the early '60s.
The song we would like to bring to your attention is "Chain Gang," written and performed by Sam Cooke.
It is Cooke's second biggest hit and his first major success for RCA after leaving Keen Records in 1959.
The song is inspired by a real-life event witnessed by Cooke while on tour, involving a chance encounter with a chain gang of prisoners performing forced labor.
It is also said that Sam Cooke was dissatisfied with the initial recording sessions for this song at the RCA studios in Manhattan in January 1960, prompting him to return three months later to re-record the vocal parts.
